Hipster Urban Vibe

The second person I interviewed is a friend of mine.  His name is Alex and is 19 years of age.  Again, same questions were asked from the previous interview.

Me: Hi Alex.  I will be asking you a few questions about fashion, in which our conversation will be posted on my blog.

Alex: Hi Ashley. Yes, that’s fine with me.

Me: Okay so the first question is, describe fashion in your own words.

Alex: Fashion is expressing your everyday life and how society views us whether we’re at a rave, house party, concert, or at a job interview.  And fashion to me is putting clothing together to make art.

Me: How would you describe your style of dress from head to toe?

Alex: I have a hipster urban vibe.  I wear loafer shoes such as Sperry shoes and Vans.  For pants I wear Nudie Jeans, Imperial Denim, or any type of organic selvage.  I wear fitted shirts and jackets and I’ll wear fitted cap/hats over beanies, or any type of hat.

Me: What are the most comfortable/stylish shoes you like to wear with your outfit of the day?

Alex: Sperry’s or boots

Me: As for an everyday outfit, what accessories or type of clothing do you like to wear or is your ultimate “must have on” before you leave your house?

Alex: I always wear my wooden cross necklace, my WWJD risk band, and hair-ties are a must.

Me: If you were to change up your style, how would you go about doing so?  Would you wear something that’s out of your element of dress? What would it be and why?

Alex: I would wear suits all the time because if I wear baggy pants I wouldn’t want to be stereotyped as too “hyphy” or “ghetto”.  If I was punk rock, people would look at me as a lunatic cause that’s what is being seen in society’s eyes.

Me: Is there anyone, as far as friends, celebrities, or designers, etc., that inspire you to dress the way you do?  If so, who is it and why?

Alex: I’m not inspired.  I just wear pieces of clothing that makes me comfortable whether it matches or not, my clothes don’t necessarily have to match but ends up matching anyways. As far as celebrities, there’s no one.

Me: How do people react to fashion and how do you react to it?

Alex: The ugliest sweater you see could be the nicest sweater you like.  Meaning, a celebrity can wear the ugliest sweater and people will be tempted to wear such clothes and hop on it.  The way I react to fashion is if I see someone wearing a feather earring and it looks cool on them, I'll rock it, weather I’m a guy.

Me: Why do costumers go for a particular brand?

Alex: Maybe because the brand is popular and the “it”/cool people wear it, celebrities wear it, or people just love the brand.  For example, I love denim such as Nudies, which I’ve been wearing for a few years now and it feels like ordinary jeans.

Me: Why do people hate when they see someone wearing exactly what they’re wearing?

Alex: Honestly I think everybody’s trying to be different.  But everyone’s the same being different.  Being a trendsetter; be new in their own way.

Me: What do you think about fashion trends?  Do you follow them because others wear what’s “in” or is it at your own interest?

Alex: I only buy things that I like.  I could care less if the dude next to me is wearing the same thing or I’m the only one wearing that certain piece of clothing.

Me: Well Alex, that is all the questions I have for you and thanks for being with me today and answering all my questions.

Alex: My pleasure.  I enjoyed answering these questions about fashion.

So, the reason why I chose to do two interviews in the beginning is to show how different and similar Ria and Alex think, by understanding a guy and a girl’s point of view about fashion, how they dress, and how their taste in clothing is different.  As far as similarities are, they both state that everyone is unique in their own ways.  And also the question that I asked about changing up your style, they both answered by declaring they would dress more mature.  This gives a basic understanding of how different genders almost about the same age grasp the fashion sense.

Self-Edge

Many people wonder about fashion; What’s in trend?  What brands people wear, etc?  Some may follow the fashion trends, but some may not because we all have our different taste and styles.  And because we do, I will be interviewing a few people I know and/or random people that I see who have a unique style of dress.  For the upcoming blogs I will be posting the interview conversations I have with these people.  I will be asking them the same questions that way we acquire their perspective on fashion and hope to inspire us with their interest.

The first person I interviewed is my 21 year old cousin Ria.

Me: Hi Ria! How are you today?

Ria: I’m doing fine.  Thank you.

Me: So just to let you know, I will be asking you a few questions about your taste in fashion and questions related to that.  As I told you before, our conversation will be posted on my fashion blog.  The first question is to describe fashion in your own words.

Ria: I feel like fashion is a unique way of how a person conveys themselves not only through their choices of clothing but how they carry themselves and their views on the world. It is a reflection of their personality and how they are as a person.

Me: How would you describe your style of dress from head to toe?

Ria: I would say my style is a bit plain, I like buying clothing where I'm able to switch it up with other pieces of clothing. However, I'm very particular about the fitting of clothes.

Me: What are the most comfortable/stylish shoes you like to wear with your outfit of the day?

Ria: The most comfortable and stylish shoes I own are my black oxfords or my tan huarache sandals.

Me: As for an everyday outfit, what accessories or type of clothing do you like to wear or is your ultimate “must have on” before you leave your house?

Ria: I like wearing this self-edge feather ring that I received from a good friend, I guess you can say because it has some sentimental value and I just love how the feather wraps around your finger.

Me: If you were to change up your style, how would you go about doing so?  Would you wear something that’s out of your element of dress? What would it be and why?

Ria: If I wore to change up my style it would definitely be more of a grown-up look, sleek and clean.

Me: Is there anyone, as far as friends, celebrities, or designers, etc., that inspire you to dress the way you do?  If so, who is it and why?

Ria: My sister is a big inspiration to how I dress because we share a lot of our clothes and she's more into fashion than I am.

Me: How do people react to fashion and how do you react to it?

Ria: People like to follow trends, as for me I in a sense like to wear what's in as well and add in my twist.

Me: Why do costumers go for a particular brand?

Ria: I think costumers go for a particular brand because it follows their everyday lifestyle or is advertised well.

Me: Why do people hate when they see someone wearing what they’re wearing?

Ria: People try to express their individuality through fashion and seeing another person in the same outfit doesn't make them feel any different.  Everyone strives to be different in some way.

Me:  And lastly, what do you think about fashion trends?  Do you follow them because others wear what’s “in” or is it at your own interest?

Ria: I feel like I do both because it's what's in and also at my own interest because I try to make the outfit me as far as the saying goes, wear the outfit don't let the outfit wear you.

Me: I agree with your last saying.  Well thank you so much for sharing.  Your answers were interesting.

Ria: No.  Thank you.  I’m glad you asked me to be part of your blog and I hope it helps.
